§ 147.09 — Exemptions

Plain-Language Summary

Certain people are exempt from the requirement to have a Minnesota medical license. These include federal military doctors on duty, out-of-state doctors in consultation, medical students under supervision, residents with permits, people working in research or public health roles, physician assistants, licensed complementary health practitioners, and Christian Scientists who heal through prayer.

Practical Notes
These exemptions are specific and narrow. Out-of-state doctors treating patients at athletic events must register with the board and pay a $50 fee. Medical students and residents must practice under proper supervision. Other health professionals must stay within the scope of their own license. Complementary and alternative health care practitioners must comply with chapter 146A.
