§ 148E.100 — Licensed Social Workers; Supervised Practice

Plain-Language Summary

This section requires licensed social workers (LSW) to complete 100 hours of supervision during their first 4,000 hours of post-degree social work practice. At least 50 of those hours must be one-on-one supervision with visual contact. The supervisor must meet specific qualifications, including having completed their own supervision requirements or holding a higher-level social work license.

Practical Notes
New LSWs must submit a supervision plan to the board within 60 days of starting a social work job. Failing to submit the plan on time results in a late fee at renewal. Supervision must cover specific content areas including ethics, practice skills, and scope of practice. After completing 4,000 hours of practice with 100 supervision hours, the LSW is no longer required to be supervised.
