§ 148E.125 — Documentation of Supervision

Plain-Language Summary

This section requires social workers to file a supervision plan with the board within 60 days of starting a social work job, and to submit verification of completed supervision when renewing their license or applying for a higher license level. The supervision plan must describe the supervisee's work, their supervisor's qualifications, and the content areas that will be covered in supervision. If the supervisor changes or the work changes significantly, a revised plan must be filed within 60 days.

Practical Notes
Failing to file the supervision plan within 60 days triggers a late fee at license renewal. Both the supervisor and supervisee must sign off on the verification documents, which requires ongoing coordination. If a former supervisor cannot be located to provide verification, the board may accept alternative documentation. Supervisees should keep copies of all supervision records in case the board requests an audit.
