§ 148E.105 — Licensed Graduate Social Workers Who Do Not Practice Clinical Social Work; Supervised Practice

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets the supervised practice requirements for licensed graduate social workers (LGSW) who do not do clinical social work. They must complete 100 hours of supervision during their first 4,000 hours of post-degree practice, at a rate of at least four hours per every 160 hours worked. After completing these requirements, they may apply for a licensed independent social worker (LISW) license.

Practical Notes
LGSWs who do not do clinical work follow a similar path as LSWs for supervision, but their supervisors must hold higher credentials. After completing 4,000 practice hours and 100 supervision hours, the LGSW is eligible to upgrade to an LISW license. Supervision records must be submitted to the board when applying for license renewal or when upgrading to a higher license level.
