§ 148E.145 — Continuing Education Providers

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets the requirements for organizations that want to become board-approved continuing education providers. To be approved, a provider must apply to the board, agree to provide proper certificates of completion, pay a fee, and offer programs with qualified presenters that meet professional standards. Approval lasts one year. The board can audit providers and revoke approval if requirements are not met.

Practical Notes
Continuing education providers do not have to be board-approved for their courses to count for social work licensure renewal—approval is optional. However, board-approved providers’ courses automatically qualify without additional review. Providers must keep records of attendees and programs for three years and must issue proper completion certificates. If approval is revoked, course hours already completed may still count if they otherwise met the requirements.
