2025 Session Last amended: 2024 session

§ 169.147 — Traffic Safety Camera System Pilot Program

Plain-Language Summary

Minnesota is running a traffic safety camera pilot program from 2025 to 2029 in Minneapolis, Mendota Heights, and state highway work zones. Speed cameras can only ticket drivers going at least 10 mph over the limit. Cameras must be near schools or in work zones, and the first 30 days are warnings only.

Practical Notes
If you drive through Minneapolis, Mendota Heights, or highway work zones, you may get a speed or red light camera ticket starting August 2025. You will get warnings first. The fine comes by mail and must include a photo of your license plate. You can contest the ticket, and your first offense may be eligible for a traffic safety course instead of a fine. Camera data is private and must be destroyed within 30 days unless linked to a ticket.
