§ 244.17 — Challenge Incarceration Program

Plain-Language Summary

The Challenge Incarceration Program (CIP) is an alternative to regular prison time. Eligible inmates can volunteer for a structured program that includes substance abuse treatment, physical activity, education, and job training. Completing the program can lead to earlier supervised release.

Practical Notes
Not all inmates qualify. Eligibility depends on the type of crime, criminal history, and other factors. The program is sometimes informally called ‘boot camp.’
