§ 260C.141 — Petition

Plain-Language Summary

Any person who knows about a child who may need protection can file a petition with the juvenile court. The petition must describe the facts showing the child needs protection, and the court must find probable cause before setting a hearing.

Practical Notes
You do not have to be a social worker or county attorney to file a petition. However, the court may reject a petition if you have not first contacted the local social services agency.
