§ 260C.212 — Children in Placement

Plain-Language Summary

When a child is placed in foster care, the agency must create a written out-of-home placement plan within 30 days. The plan must be developed together with the parents, explain why the child was removed, describe what services are being provided, and set out what the parents must do for the child to return home.

Practical Notes
Parents have the right to participate in creating this plan. The plan must also address the child’s educational, medical, and cultural needs, and prioritize placement with relatives.
