§ 260C.163 — Hearing

Plain-Language Summary

Parents, children, and guardians all have the right to attend and participate in child protection hearings. Parents have the right to a lawyer, and if they cannot afford one, the court must appoint one. Children also have a right to a guardian ad litem to represent their interests.

Practical Notes
Grandparents who have lived with the child in the past two years also have a right to participate. Hearings are generally open to the public unless the court orders them closed.
