§ 268A.085 — Community Rehabilitation Provider Governing Boards

Plain-Language Summary

This section requires every entity establishing an extended employment program to appoint a governing board of at least seven voting members before becoming eligible for state assistance. The board must be representative of the community served, including at least one person with a disability. The board's duties include reviewing program needs, recruiting local financial support, and acting as program administrator.

Practical Notes
Board composition and appointment rules vary based on who establishes the program — single cities or counties, combinations of entities, or nonprofit corporations each have different appointment procedures. The exception for county-run programs allows the county board itself to serve as the governing board. Persons with disabilities have a guaranteed seat on these boards, giving them a voice in program governance.
