2025 Session Last amended: 2023 session

§ 325F.69 — Unlawful Practices

Plain-Language Summary

Prohibits fraud, misrepresentation, deceptive practices, and unfair or unconscionable conduct in connection with the sale of any merchandise. Also bans pyramid schemes, chain referral selling, fake going-out-of-business sales, and deceptive use of financial institution names.

Practical Notes
This is the core Minnesota consumer fraud statute. Consumers injured by deceptive practices can seek injunctive relief through the attorney general under section 325F.70, and may bring private lawsuits for damages, attorney fees, and costs. Violations involving pyramid or referral selling are gross misdemeanors.
