§ 336.4-303 — When Items Subject to Notice, Stop-payment Order, Legal Process, or Setoff; Order in Which Items May Be Charged or Certified

Plain-Language Summary

A stop-payment order, knowledge of the customer's death, or similar legal process must be received by the bank early enough to give it a reasonable time to act on it before the bank has committed to pay the item.

Practical Notes
A stop-payment order must reach the bank before it has finished processing the check. Timing is critical.
