2025 Session Last amended: 2024 session

§ 548.091 — Support, Maintenance, or County Reimbursement Judgments

Plain-Language Summary

Sets out special rules for child support and spousal maintenance judgments. Unpaid child support automatically becomes a judgment by operation of law on the date it is due. Child support judgments can be renewed multiple times until fully paid. As of August 1, 2022, interest no longer accrues on child support judgments.

Practical Notes
If you owe child support, every missed payment automatically becomes a court judgment that creates a lien on your real property. The custodial parent or the county can docket these judgments without a separate hearing. Child support judgments can be renewed indefinitely until paid in full. If you believe you are current on payments, you can request a hearing to challenge the amount. Interest stopped accruing on child support judgments as of August 1, 2022.
