§ 609.562 — Arson in the Second Degree

Plain-Language Summary

Second-degree arson means intentionally setting fire to or blowing up a building when it is not occupied and no one is endangered. It is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $20,000, or both.

Practical Notes
Second-degree arson applies to unoccupied buildings where there is no risk to human life. It is less serious than first-degree but still a significant felony. The value of the building does not matter.
