§ 60C.04 — Creation

Plain-Language Summary

This section creates the Minnesota Insurance Guaranty Association. All insurance companies licensed to do business in Minnesota must be members. The association is split into five accounts: automobile, township mutuals, fidelity and surety bonds, workers' compensation, and all other covered insurance.

Practical Notes
Every property and casualty insurer doing business in Minnesota must belong to this association. If your insurer goes bankrupt, the association uses money from these five accounts to help pay your claims. An insurer cannot avoid membership by merging with another company.
