§ 142G.18 — Persons Ineligible; Vendor Payments

Plain-Language Summary

Certain people face restrictions on how they receive MFIP benefits. People convicted of a felony drug offense in the past ten years must receive their benefits as vendor payments for shelter and utilities. People fleeing felony charges, violating probation or parole, or guilty of welfare fraud may be barred from MFIP.

Practical Notes
A felony drug conviction does not make you completely ineligible for MFIP, but your benefits will be paid directly to your landlord and utility companies. Cannabis-related convictions are excluded from this restriction. People convicted of welfare fraud using a false identity face a permanent ban from the program.
