§ 182.653 — Rights and Duties of Employers

Plain-Language Summary

Employers must provide a workplace free from known hazards that could cause death or serious injury. They must follow all OSHA standards, allow inspections, train workers about hazardous substances and harmful agents, and create a written workplace safety program (AWAIR). Employers must also share safety information with workers who buy their products.

Practical Notes
This is one of the most important sections for employers. You must train employees about every hazardous substance they may be exposed to, and update that training every year. The AWAIR program requirement means certain employers must have a written plan for reducing workplace accidents. Farming operations with ten or fewer employees have limited exemptions.
