§ 204B.175 — Change of Polling Place in an Emergency

Plain-Language Summary

If a polling place becomes unavailable due to an emergency, the municipal clerk or county auditor can move the polling place to a different location. They must make reasonable efforts to notify voters of the change, including posting signs at the original location.

Practical Notes
Emergencies like fires, floods, or building damage can require last-minute polling place changes. Election officials must post notices at the original location directing voters to the new site. This ensures voting continues even when unexpected problems arise.
