§ 204C.361 — Rules for Recounts

Plain-Language Summary

The secretary of state must adopt rules establishing uniform procedures for all recounts statewide. Ballots must be kept separated by precinct during recounts, but a recount official may count multiple precincts at the same time in separate physical locations within one room.

Practical Notes
Uniform rules ensure recounts are conducted consistently regardless of where they occur. The ability to count multiple precincts simultaneously in separate areas of the same room speeds up the recount process.
