§ 259.29 — Protection of Best Interests in Adoptive Placements

Plain-Language Summary

Requires that adoptive placements serve the child's best interests through individualized assessment, and establishes a preference for placing children with relatives or important friends before other placements.

Practical Notes
If you are a relative or close family friend of a child who needs an adoptive home, Minnesota law gives you priority consideration. Agencies must first consider placement with relatives, then with important friends who have a relationship with the child, before placing with other families.
