§ 260C.221 — Relative Search and Engagement; Placement Consideration

Plain-Language Summary

When a child is removed from home, the social services agency must make a thorough effort to find and notify the child's adult relatives on both sides of the family within 30 days. Relatives must be told about the option to become a foster home for the child and the possibility that a permanent placement may be needed.

Practical Notes
If you are a relative of a child in foster care, the agency is required by law to search for you and notify you. Contact the agency or the court to make sure they have your current address.
