§ 260C.451 — Foster Care Benefits Past Age 18

Plain-Language Summary

Young people in foster care can continue receiving foster care services past age 18 and up to age 21 if they cannot safely return home and do not have another permanent family. The agency must notify the youth about this option six months before they turn 18.

Practical Notes
This is an important protection for youth aging out of foster care. Eligible young adults can continue receiving housing, education support, and other services while working toward independence.
