§ 84A.55 — Commissioner's Control of Conservation Lands

Plain-Language Summary

The commissioner of natural resources has broad power to manage conservation areas, including forest protection, timber sales, water management, wildlife care, and road building. The commissioner can issue hunting and fishing permits and make rules that have the force of law.

Practical Notes
This section gives the DNR commissioner wide-ranging authority over conservation areas. If you own private land in a conservation area, you are subject to DNR rules, but your constitutional property rights are protected. Snowmobiles are allowed on wildlife management areas within these lands unless the commissioner specifically prohibits them.
