§ 142A.607 — Assessments

Plain-Language Summary

This section explains the assessment process used to determine benefit levels for children in Northstar Care for Children. Children are assessed at a basic level or one of ten supplemental difficulty of care levels based on their needs. The assessment also considers whether the caregiver needs child care help.

Practical Notes
Initial assessments must be done within 30 days of placement. Caregivers can request reassessments every six months, or sooner with documentation of significant changes. The child care allowance adjusts automatically when a child turns 7 or 13. For children with extraordinary needs, up to five additional levels of support can be added if the child would otherwise need residential placement.
