§ 142A.609 — Benefits and Payments

Plain-Language Summary

This section describes the three benefits under Northstar Care for Children: medical assistance, a basic payment, and a supplemental difficulty of care payment. Payment amounts are based on the child's age and assessed level of need. The commissioner sets and may annually adjust the rate schedule.

Practical Notes
Children are assessed at levels from A through L, with higher levels receiving higher supplemental payments for more intensive care needs. An emergency foster care rate is available for the first 30 days of placement before the initial assessment is complete. Payments are made to the caregiver but are considered benefits belonging to the child.
