§ 142A.608 — Agreements

Plain-Language Summary

This section governs the written agreements required for Northstar kinship assistance and adoption assistance. Agreements must be signed before the adoption is finalized or custody is transferred. They specify the payment amount, duration, services, and Medicaid eligibility, and can be renegotiated when the child's needs change.

Practical Notes
Caregivers negotiate the payment amount with the financially responsible agency, up to the maximum set by the child’s assessment. Agreements remain in effect even if the family moves to another state. At-risk children receive level A payments initially, but the agreement can be renegotiated if the disability manifests later.
