§ 142E.17 — Child Care Rates

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets the maximum rates the state will pay child care providers for care delivered to assisted families. Rates are set based on market surveys and vary by provider type, age of child, and geographic area. Providers may charge families more than the state rate, but families must pay the difference out of pocket.

Practical Notes
The maximum reimbursement rates are updated periodically based on market rate surveys. Providers whose rates exceed the state maximum are allowed to serve assisted families, but the additional cost falls on the family. Families should ask providers about their rates and compare them to the state maximum when choosing a child care provider.
