§ 142G.71 — Good Cause Exemption From Sanction

Plain-Language Summary

You will not be sanctioned if you have good cause for failing to follow MFIP requirements. Good cause includes lack of child care, illness, a sick family member, no transportation, an emergency situation, family violence, or your employer not following labor laws.

Practical Notes
If you receive a notice that you are going to be sanctioned, you have the right to explain why you could not comply. The county must attempt to resolve the issue with you before imposing the sanction. You can continue to claim good cause each month, but only for the month the reason applies.
