§ 142G.51 — Employment and Training; Participant

Plain-Language Summary

All MFIP caregivers must participate in employment and training services and develop an employment plan. Single parents with no children under six must work or participate in activities for at least 130 hours per month. Single parents with a child under six need at least 87 hours, and two-parent families need a combined 55 hours per week.

Practical Notes
Failing to participate in employment services or follow your employment plan without good cause will result in a sanction (reduction in your benefits). The required hours vary based on your family situation. If you are under 20 and do not have a high school diploma, you have different education-focused requirements.
