§ 142B.18 — Sanctions

Plain-Language Summary

This section lists the sanctions the commissioner can impose on child care and foster care license holders, including fines, license suspension, and license revocation. Fines range from $100 to $5,000 depending on the type of violation. The commissioner can immediately suspend a license when there is an imminent risk of harm to children or vulnerable adults.

Practical Notes
License holders have 10 calendar days to appeal a suspension, revocation, or fine. If you appeal a suspension or revocation, you may continue operating under a temporary provisional license while the appeal is pending. You must post any suspension, fine, or revocation order where parents and visitors can see it for two years. Fines cannot be avoided by selling or closing the program.
