§ 256B.055 — Eligibility Categories

Plain-Language Summary

Lists the categories of people who can get Medical Assistance (Medicaid) in Minnesota. Covers children in foster care or adoption assistance, pregnant women, children under 21, parents and caretakers of minor children, elderly adults 65 and older, people with disabilities, and adults without dependent children.

Practical Notes
This is the starting point for figuring out if you qualify for Medical Assistance. Minnesota has broader eligibility than many states. Children, pregnant women, elderly adults, people with disabilities, and even childless adults may qualify. If you are not sure which category fits you, apply anyway – the county agency will determine the best category. You can apply online through MNsure, in person at your county human services office, or by calling your county.
