§ 148E.060 — Temporary Licenses

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows the Board of Social Work to issue temporary licenses to social workers who are waiting for a full license to be processed. A temporary license lasts up to six months and is not renewable. It is available to new graduates who have passed the exam, out-of-state licensees, and graduates from programs awaiting accreditation approval.

Practical Notes
A temporary license lets a new social work graduate start working while their full license application is processed. Temporary licensees must use specific titles like ‘Temporary License Graduate Social Worker’ and cannot use full license credentials. They must still obtain supervision during this period, and those supervision hours count toward full license requirements.
